BORIS KOVAČ  - Short Biography

Boris Kovač (1955) is a composer, instrumentalist and multimedia artist from Vojvodina, the Pannonian part of Yugoslavia. He writes music for chamber groups he rehearses and leads. Many of his projects are to some extent connected with theatre. From 1989 he has been the leader of the Chamber Theatre of Music OGLEDALO from Novi Sad. During the period from 1991-1995 he mainly lived and worked in Italy, Slovenia and Austria. In 1996 he moves back to Yugoslavia. Boris KovacBy leading his RITUAL NOVA ensemble, LaDaABa orchest, La Campanella orchestra, Chamber Theatre of Music OGLEDALO, Academy of Fine Skills and working with students he is also trying to reestablish the contemporary music/theatre scene in his country.
He has performed his works in around 500 concerts and more the 250 festivals of world and new music and contemporary theater in around  30 countries on 4 continents. His CD albums was 3 times in top 10 of European Broadcast Union(world music charts europe), in August 2005 at the second position; CD album The Last Balkan Tango was chosen in the best "50 essential albums" ever (rhythms of the world) in Songlines magazine.Boris Kovac got the biggest Serbian theatre prize -STERIJA AWARD formusic in the year 2007. In the year 2008 he received the prize for the best music on Cinema City festival. His DVD Before and after Apocalypse, received the prize of the German Critics Association.
